Unlock Chinese

I have been studying Chinese at Unlock Chinese with teacher Yutong Chen for two years now. Simply put, Yutong is a fantastic teacher. Patient, supportive, and encouraging, Yutong has exceptional language teaching skills.

Mine is a happy case of teaching an old dog a new language. I needed to learn Chinese because my business often takes me to China. During the Pandemic, I started classes on line at Unlock Chinese and was immediately inspired by the course curriculum and Yutong’s enthusiasm. As soon as we could, we changed to in person class, which have simply been exceptional.

With her bright smile and sunny disposition, Yutong makes learning Chinese fun. She is passionately dedicated to helping her students improve. Whether in class or in an on line tutoring session, Yutong keeps the language learning process both enjoyable and rewarding. She will, at times, tailor the lessons to fit my business needs, helping me improve my vocabulary in my field. Along with grammar and vocabulary, she likes to teach the customs, history and popular culture of China.

A typical class goes like this: to make sure my classmates and I don't get rusty on the basics, each class begins with conversation plus Q & A. After that, we dig into our textbook, Integrated Chinese, for the lesson of the week. Yutong also employs other educational tools such as Quizlet, Chineasy, videos, and sound recordings, all focusing on speaking and reading Chinese. In short the class work is smart, focused and fun.

Over these past two years, I feel that I am getting excellent value for my money. I am progressing and getting more and more comfortable with speaking, and reading the Mandarin language. I just can’t recommend Unlock Chinese higher to anyone who wants to enjoy learning this wonderful language.

Yutong is a fantastic Mandarin teacher! Over the last three years, I've worked with her to maintain and improve the standards of my business Mandarin, having previously learnt Mandarin as a second language from a young age. Shan-tan Wang is a wonderful teacher, who taught my son last year. Her lessons and homework were always carefully planned and at just the right level. She made the lessons engaging and my son made a lot of progress both with written and spoken Mandarin. I highly recommend Shan-tan!

Shan-tan was an excellent teacher! She did a great job not only explaining the current lesson's material but also relating it to my everyday situation and creating engaging conversation to help me remember new vocabulary and grammar. She was very understanding of my confusions and very productive to work with. Yutong also helped me feel supported by providing a multitude of resources from the school like textbooks and Mandarin-language content, as well as helping to understand my needs and pair me with the right teacher. Overall I would highly recommend Unlock Chinese to anyone looking for a tailored 1-on-1 experience with excellent teachers.

I have been taking weekly lessons with Melody for 9 months now and it has been an absolute pleasure. She has tailored the lessons to my level and my learning style. I started out by using the integrated Chinese method, but later decided that a more conversation focused approach works better with my learning goals. Melody was great at teaching using both approaches! Every week I have made meaningful progress towards learning the language, which makes me look forward to every next lesson. If you are interested in learning this wonderful language in a time efficient way, I would highly recommend this school.
