Mabee Farm Historic Site

I always enjoy attending special events here. The Farm is full of History and it would make a great class trip to look back at the past.
The craft fairs are wonderful!

Attended an antique bottle show at this location. Property and buildings of old farm along river. Landscape gorgeous. Bottle show very nice. Purchased a couple lovely old glass embossed bottles dating back to the 1880's. Fun event. Will return again. Only complaint is the sun was brutally hot that day but it is late July so expected hot weather. Just glad it did not rain.

Tours of the historical buildings, stories of how things were done in the past. This place is fun and educational!
This trip was a 4th if July celebration. It is also fun without the holiday.

We adore Mabee Farm Historic Site. Their events are curated with authenticity in mind and their caring staff and volunteers are passionate and knowledgeable. We have small kids and this is such wonderful way for them (and for us!) to learn about the history of this area. We attended the Maple Day last Saturday and it could not have been more perfect. It was well-planned, all done outside (also all wearing masks) and we really enjoyed ourselves. Mike, the site manager, is a great host, very kind and patient. This small musem has been a shining star for us during the pandemic. We cannot wait for the weather to get better so we can have a picnic.

This place is fantastic.
The main building is the oldest farm in the Mohawk Valley built in 1705. The site is run by the Schenectady Historic Society. The Dutch barn is one of the other main buildings I was surprised to find it was move to this site and not originally here. The Dutch barn is from the 1760’s. Also they a modern build visitors center and pavilion for food and drinks behind it.
The best events are the Fall Foliage festival that they hold in October on one weekend. Which is a celebration of all things fall. They have music, hay rides, horses, goats, a petting zoo, sheep dog-herding demonstrations, owls, birds of prey, pumpkin painting, vendor, cider, beer and food.

They also put on the Howlin’ at the Moon convert series each month on the full moon and CanalFest. The Howlin’ at the Moon summer and fall concerts take place in Mabee Farm’s historic 1760s Dutch barn. The winter concerts are held in the Franchere Center (modern visitors center) at Mabee Farm. They have beer and wine available for purchase. The bands change monthly but are normally bluegrass or folk music.
CanalFest that they put is similar to the Fall Foliage festival. It is in the summer (normally July). This has included music, a petting zoo, rehabbed wild animals, food and craft beer, kid’s activities, craft vendors and ice cream in the past. CanalFest is inspired by the Erie Canal and they had canoe rides.
