One of my favorite beaches to visit near New York City, it's best to get here by car, though you can also use the Long Island Railroad and Uber to make it happen. It's less busy than some of the other beaches that are closer to New York City and it's also less busy than Jones Beach. For those reasons it's one of my favorites and highly recommended to visit during the summer.
So beautiful, especially the walk to the lighthouse (near Field 5). Go during early morning just after sunrise or late afternoon in off season to really experience the park, wildlife, the dunes and beach at their quiet best and in their most flattering light. It is fun in summer of course but crowded, off-season is when it shines as a nature park.
It was raining steadily but I got a chance to try out some new camera equipment. I love the boardwalk over to the lighthouse and the displays there now are very informative as is the staff. The staff is knowledgeable and engaging about the lighthouse and regional history. The views are beautiful, even on a gray, rainy day. Love to see and photograph the deer and birds.
Been going to Robert Moses since I was five and it hasn't changed. Beautiful clean ocean beach with no radio quiet areas. The life guards don't hassle you like they do at Long beach, and you avoid the Riff Raff at both Long Beach and Jones Beach. Past field 5 towards the lighthouse is the clothing optional area which is low key compared to Sandy Hook in NJ.
Bathroom was nice, compared to other beach bathrooms I've been too. Went on a Sunday afternoon to take a breath from life for a few hours. No lifeguards at the time of my visit but it isn't summer yet and saw a bunch of young men who worked there, combing the beach and keeping busy. I was able to tell one of them about a faulty dryer that was on continuously; nice that someone was there to alert.
People there at the time were multicultural and I loved that; the fact that everyone gave each other respect and love...
Found a baby sand dollar shell on the beach; was bitter sweet.
Go here on your weekend off. Appreciate the deer that you will see crossing the main highway (DO NOT FEED deer or fox or any other animals; they will come up to cars, trust humans and get killed). Love nature, love each others, enjoy nature! It's kinda crappy when it's crowded (I generally and personally prefer less crowded places), but people still are generally still nice. I highly recommend Robert Moses! ???????????????????????????????? Live long and prosper, in ascension we rise...open up your eyes and appreciate nature! ????
