I love Salon D. The location is great- practically right off the Saw Mill Parkway in Mt. Kisco. It's right near Target and A&P as well. There's plenty of parking in the front or rear of the building.

The salon is spacious and clean- has a modern feel with some neat architectural elements.

The staff is very courteous, professional and friendly. My preferred stylist is Kim L. I've been going to her for years and have never been disappointed with color or cut. Kim is a true gem!

I highly recommend Salon D if you're in the northern Westchester area.

I recently took advantage of a Groupon offer to try this place. I moved up to Westchester from Manhattan several years ago, and have been on the hunt for the right salon ever since. It's been a struggle; I feel as though I've been to every salon listed on Westchester Magazine's "Best" list, and none of them made me feel as though they cared more about me than they did about their vibe or their bottom line. I always left feeling as though they did their best to make me look like a cookie-cutter upscale suburban mom. And while I might be a suburban mom, I have a definite identity beyond that and don't actually WANT to look like everyone around me. So off I went to Salon D, prepared for yet another disappointing experience on my journey to find a new home for my hair.

This place is fantastic, and SUCH a nice change from most of the salons in the area. There's zero attitude - everyone from the smiling receptionist to the girl who washed my hair were incredibly pleasant. The salon itself is modern, elegant and comfortable without making you feel as though you're not rich/thin/trendy enough to be there, Edie gave me a cut, full head highlights, and a blowout, and I walked out of there feeling like a movie star. Dawn, the salon owner, came over to introduce herself and make sure I was happy and had everything I needed, and the sense I got was that she didn't do it as a business ploy, but because she genuinely cares that her customers are satisfied. The rest of the people who work there seem to take their cues from the boss - it's all about your experience/satisfaction.

Unlike the other salons I've been to since I moved up here from the city, Salon D customers actually TALK to each other. There were loads of interesting conversations happening, and women who clearly didn't know each other were chatting while the stylists worked their magic. There were a wide variety of ages present, but that didn't seem to make a bit of difference - the twentysomethings were mixing it up with the sixtysomethings, and nobody seemed out of place. I think a lot of other salons crank up whatever Sirius station they like to keep people from noticing the awkward silence. It's not as though anyone was forcing you to participate - I stayed pretty quiet, actually. But the conversations around me were more than local gossip or rehashing trashy tv shows.

Usually, I look forward to going to the salon the way I look forward to going to the dentist; it's two hours of necessary torture while my long hair is highlighted and beaten into submission. This time I was honestly surprised at how quickly the time flew by, and had to check my watch to make sure it had taken about as long as it usually does for me to get my highlights done.

The bottom line is that this place is actually...fun. I went in there hoping for good service, a convenient location, a reasonable price, and an atmosphere that didn't make me feel unwelcome or awkward. I left there knowing my search for a new salon was finally, finally over. This is the longest review I've ever left for anything in my life, but I honestly think they deserve it. It's my Google version of shouting from the rooftops.
