I had the privilege of receiving guidance and care from Carolyn during my most recent the postpartum and nursing season. Even though this was my third baby, and I have been to several other hospital-based lactation support centers, I learned so much more from her when it comes to nursing, and especially tongue ties. Carolyn has truly been an invaluable resource to our breastfeeding journey. After the birth of our son, I was determined to breastfeed, but I never realized how challenging it could be! We received a lot of support from the nurses at the hospital and from the lactation consultants as well, but we still went home in pain with the hope that things would get better. When my son was 5 weeks old, I decided that I had shed enough tears over breastfeeding and that we needed some help! I loved that Carolyn offered home consultations, this is so much easier and more comfortable with a newborn baby. In the first visit, she was offering so many tips and advice that I never remember hearing in the hospital or after. Within a few days, we stopped using a shield during feedings. She also suggested that we see an ENT for evaluation of a possible mild tongue tie. We did and had the issue corrected. Within 2 weeks of seeing Carolyn several times at our house, we were 100% shield free (something I thought may never happen), in a lot less pain, and breastfeeding with a smile! Carolyn continues to be supportive and prompt when I have questions regarding breastfeeding.

Carolyn is excellent. We had real challenges with feeding our baby. Carolyn is a patient, informed and client-focused professional who brings real care and attentive listening to every session. Among the things they don’t tell you — breast feeding is really, really hard. In the end, due to postpartum issues, we needed to ween my wife off pumping, in order to allow her get more than 4 hours sleep in any stretch. While Carolyn is obviously pro-breast, she understood and provided us great consultation in how to do that. I would say a lactation consultant is something that all new parents should book in for immediately after their baby arrives. It was the one aspect of care in our hospital that really left something to be desired. My wife had done Carolyn’s class and we had her on standby and she was critical to us getting through. Having a baby is super hard! This is one area where there is great, local help at hand. Reach out to her BEFORE you have your baby! Thank you Carolyn!!
