While all the staff was extremely friendly, my experience with Wake Emergency on 4.3 was horrific because when I was admitted at the reception desk they told me that they accepted my insurance, but about an hour or so later when I was discharged I was stopped while leaving and told by the front desk that they were sorry, but I needed to give them my credit card because it turns out they DO NOT accept my out-of-state insurance. I was appalled, as I NEVER would have received treatment at this facility had they told me upon checking in that they didn't accept my insurance. Now they charged my credit card for a deposit and I have to live in fear of bills for this arriving in the mail. They even could have come into the room I was waiting for the Dr. in at any point in the hour+ I was in there to let me know whenever they figured out that they wouldn't accept my insurance, but they didn't. This is appalling to me and the worst experience I could imagine in seeking care for my injury. I never leave reviews like this, but I just want to warn folks so this insanely stressful and potentially very expensive outcome doesn't happen to them.

I wanted to thank Joan for contacting me, because after this review and my following up based on the recommendation in the Reply from Wake Med, Joan informed me that it was a mistake, as my insurance did cover my visit, I simply should not have been told it didn't. My credit card has also been refunded the deposit I had paid on 4.3, so while this had been insanely stressful, I do appreciate their follow up and making it right.

The physicians, nurses and other staff at WakeMed Brier Creek were exceptional when I was recently treated for a small bowel obstruction, that ultimately required surgery. One staff member, Jimmy, who works in radiology, went above and beyond the call of duty, and my husband and I would like to give special acknowledgement for his kindness and extraordinary effort on our behalf. My husband is an insulin dependent diabetic who had been by my side for hours as I was being diagnosed and treated for what had originally been diagnosed as gastroenteritis at another urgent care facility. We were referred to WakeMed for further examination. Because we are vegetarians, Jimmy went out of his way to get my husband some food in order to prevent him from having a low blood sugar episode. Thank you so very much, Jimmy, we were so grateful for your help at a very difficult time.

I was at the emergency department from around 11:30am - 8:00pm. All care was excellent. However, not one person during this entire time of 8.5 hours ever asked me if I was thirsty or hungry. I had not eaten or drank anything that whole day until I was transferred to WakeMed North where I was able to order dinner, my first meal of the day. Other than this, the care was very good.
