Hillsboro Shotokan Karate-Do Club

Joseph is incredibly passionate about karate and is a detail oriented trainer. He also expects a high level of discipline in the dojo which has translated to greater focus in my children.

This is a great place! I have been doing various martial arts for most of my life. Sensei Joseph is the most knowledgeable and technical instructor that I have ever had. It is a friendly learning environment but serious at the same time. Shotokan is a great style. It is traditional and modern in same moment.

My son has had a wonderful experience with HSK Club! He has learnt so much since he joined the club at the age of 6 (now he is 13). Sensei Joseph pays close attention to each one’s individual skills in this art, and his teachings have definitely had a positive impact on my son, both physically and mentally. I highly recommend HSK club to anyone at any age looking to learn this disciplined martial art.

I joined Hillsboro Shotokan Karate (HSK for short) in 2017, and have never regretted that decision. Sensei Joseph is an amazing instructor who manages to inspire people to give their 100% every class, and is someone who helped me bring my Karate to the next level. His passion for Karate is really apparent, as is his dedication to helping students excel. He is extremely knowledgeable and is always willing to share that knowledge with students to help them better understand Karate. Karate has helped me gain self-confidence, fitness, and discipline, and has given me the confidence to defend myself if needed. The HSK community is a really welcoming and accepting place, where everyone shares a passion for Karate. I can't really say anything bad about HSK even if I tried, and I would really recommend joining the club if you are interested in martial arts! Even in quarantine the training is still going strong, as Sensei Joseph is keeping the classes going over zoom.

I’ve joined the Hillsboro Shotokan Karate Club in 2017 with the goal to develop into a stronger person who will not be helpless if someone around me was in danger. Training at the HSK Dojo, I’ve gained a better focus of what’s going on around me in my everyday life, I have a faster reaction time and so much more I can’t put words on it. Sensei Joseph is guiding us on how to refine our techniques and to never stop expecting the best of ourselves. His love for karate is contagious. My teammates are extraordinary people, serious, dedicated, generous. I feel fortunate to train with them. I believe practicing Karate with these incredible individuals make me a better person.
