Tucked away in Lumberville just outside of New Hope, the 1740 House was a wonderful inn to stay at while attending a friends wedding down the road. Beautiful view of the river, comfortable bed, and fantastic breakfast in the morning. Would definitely stay again.
I was pleased with our stay at 1740 House. We were in the area for a wedding and it was just an overnight stay. We were there in mid-December and the weather was a bit dreary so we didn't get a chance to explore. They have a variety of outdoor seating areas with gas heaters when it's a bit milder. I would have enjoyed having a drink outside watching the river.
The room was OK. Nothing special. Clean and comfortable but a bit tight for elbow room. The bed was comfortable. The room was quiet and shielded from road noise. The bathroom was clean but could benefit with a new floor. Any guy over 6' tall will be challenged using the mirror to shave or put on a tie.
Breakfast was very nice. The dining area was quaint and comfortable. Service was attentive. There were several custom made hot breakfast choices to select. There was a variety of nice breads, jams, yogurts, granola, scones, fresh fruits, etc. The tomato-basil omelet was well prepared and served with home fries and perfectly cooked bacon.
I wish our travel plans could have included time for dinner and drinks socializing with other quests. Maybe next time. Enjoy your travels. Remember, not all those who wander are lost.
We stayed here in May, when I was North for my first mid-Atlantic spring in a dozen years. Their Web site and brochure don't begin to show what a special place the 1740 House is. Accommodations were historic, yet very comfortable. There is a bar on the premises; the night we arrived there was a cookout on an outside grill -great food served in an area adjacent to the Delaware River. The breakfasts there are excellent. They provide coffee in the lobby area beginning at 7 am, which makes waiting for breakfast easier. This is a wonderful place to stay and we highly recommend it.
As members of their private dining club, we love the laid back atmosphere and riverside views. Friendly staff make you feel right at home. Constantly rotating menu keeps things fresh and imaginative.
Have stayed at the 1740 House twice and loved it both times. The fact that you can eat dinner there, which is always delicious, is a plus. The inn is cozy with great views in a quaint town and the staff friendly and personable. If you need a quick getaway this could be it!
