The guys at Merv's know their business, the prices are reasonable, their labor rates are reasonable, and they took the time to answer all of my questions. I will definitely be giving them my business.
My first experience here was one to remember. This was actually about 5-6 years ago but I still remember that day like it was yesterday. First off, I will say that this place is great. Tons of bikes at good prices and the guy that worked with me was very nice. I never ended up buying a bike but i left with an unbelievable story. ...so I was looking at a bike with the guy who was running the store. I'm about 6'2" and this guy towered over me. Then this amish lady comes running in, hand covered in blood and she's screaming in PA dutch. I had no clue what she was saying but the bike guy told me her horse had slipped the reins and took off without her. She wanted to know if that was my car sitting out front and if I could take her to go get her horse. Still dumbfounded as to what's going on, I jump in my tiny BMW with the tall bike guy and the amish lady. We're heading down some back roads that I'm not very familiar with and I'm not completely sure what the situation is. I know we're going after a horse so should I drive faster? Are these people going to feel uncomfortable with me going faster? ...I always try to provide a smooth ride when I have passengers. So anyway, we get to route 11. The lady says to go right, so I did. Apparently the horse could have gone two ways so we tried one and turned down a road off of 11. No horse to be seen so we turn around and head back down rte 11. Then she asks for my cellphone. I give it to her and she's figuring out how to use it. Once she does, she calls someone and is screaming in PA Dutch in my backseat on the phone. We turn left off of 11 down another back road. I'm thinking, "man, this horse has no driver and crossed opposing traffic by itself on busy route 11". So we start to see a line of cars stacking up. I zip passed all the cars and see that it's a horse AND A BUGGY. I get in front of the horse and buggy and slow down to hopefully stop the horse. I'm looking in the rear view mirror and this thing is right on top of us. It's zigging and zagging trying to get around us and I'm doing the same to keep it behind me. All of a sudden the amish lady opens the door and jumps out of my car. She tucks and rolls and gets up immediately but could not catch up to the horse. Then the tall bike guy does the same. With those long legs he can out run any horse. He does just that. He grabs the horse and brings it to a stop. I stop my car, get out and the amish lady is bringing THREE SMALL CHILDREN OUT OF THE BUGGY. ONE OF THEM LOOKED CLOSE TO BEING A NEWBORN. The runaway horse and buggy crossed route 11 twice, on it's own during the busiest time of the day with 3 small children in there. Unbelievable. The lady fixes her horses reins, I give her a napkin for her bloody hand and she's on her way back home. I take the bike guy back to his shop and that concludes my first time at Merv's bike shop.
