I took lessons from Colin in Vermont for almost three years -- I went into it having never played the guitar before and now have a full repertoire of pieces, from folk to pop and some bluegrass as well. Colin is both a wonderful teacher and skilled musician -- extremely patient, focused, and able to tailor his lessons to the student's learning style and progress as the student does as well. I learned a lot from him both about guitar and music in general and can't recommend him highly enough!
I took lessons with Colin for about 5 months. I'm a beginner guitar player and made a lot of progress over that time. Colin is very knowledgeable, encouraging, patient and kind. As an adult learner and a full-time worker, I was looking to add something fun, creative and stress-free to my life. Colin helped me learn songs I wanted to play, encouraged me to write my own music and gave me ideas when I was stuck. It was a really valuable experience and I'm so grateful Colin was my first teacher to lay the foundation for my guitar playing! Highly recommend him.
I took lessons with Colin for four years. I had never played before but we went from a few strums to learning a new song each week. By the time Colin left Vermont, he and I would jam for an hour a week.
We played mostly sixties rock but he could play most everything. Colin is a great teacher.
Colin taught our 9 year old son for a couple years. Our son didn't have a great attitude about taking guitar lessons but Colin did an amazing job making it fun, and making sure that he succeeded and improved with every lesson. Plus he assigned our son many popular riffs so it was enjoyable listening to him practice and get better. Colin's laid back and patient style is perfect for kids. Colin himself is an amazing guitarist, so if you are looking for more serious, advanced lessons, then Colin is more than capable.
I have played in bands will Colin - he is among the most talented and tasteful guitarist I've worked with. He is a phenomenal musician and teacher. He has many years of experience as a working musician and as a private guitar instructor. I highly recommend studying with him!
