Dr. Austin is a very thorough and kind professional. Obviously in his work for the love of people and their life struggles. I have had many other counselors that had agenda's different than mine, The wonderful thing about Dr. Austin is his desire for you to forge your own path. He says in the beginning, "I work for you" which was scary at first because I certainly didn't know what direction to go. However, he weaves you through your tangled mess of a life in such a way you are going somewhere. Sometimes I do get a sense of being gently lead, but not pulled by a leash or jerked from a spot of danger. I have a very long way to go. But, it is no doubt that he is going to get me where I need to be in a way that feels like it was all my idea in the first place. Maybe the real beauty in this lies in the fact I am learning that I am really saving myself. He is just there applauding my efforts. I can see how in the past I was left with a feeling of not being involved with the decisions of my counseling, some of the techniques or assumptions I didn't even agree with. It just made me feel more dependent and needy. This is very valuable counseling and guidance. But in a much more effective way for me. He is very professional, educated, published and credentialed. However, you feel like you are talking with an old friend who just loves you.
