I've dealt with four local home health agencies over the past 10 years. I've fired all but this one because - unfortunately - when Medicaid is the one funding the home health nursing, "you get what you pay for" in that these agencies have a hard time securing QUALITY nurses when they can get paid more in the private sector for the same job. Other agencies have been rigid and inflexible in meeting our needs. They made commitments they were unable to keep, which jeapordized my own job because I had to miss work due to their failures. I've had nurses quit in the middle of a shift and walk out - spurring a state investigation based on abandonment. I've had nurses who stole medications and jewelry and family heirlooms. It's been a nightmare - with most agencies.
I won't say that Silver-Spring has been a complete exception to the rule. They, too, are limited in finding quality nurses for the same reason as other agencies. However, they have worked the hardest to meet our needs in that they understand that flexibility in scheduling is required and that we must have people with strong work ethics. Fortunately, they provided us with an amazing nurse who is totally committed to my sister's care. Silver-Spring has paraded many nurses through our home who have not lasted due to incompetence, complacency, or lack of commitment to come to work as expected (one didn't come because she had cramps. Another said she'd arrive at 10 am and strolled in at 2 pm surprised that we were unhappy about it.).
Yes, this agency has a lot of nurses who are originally from Nigeria, as this is the management's native culture. I have no issue with that fact. I do, however, have issue with the fact that many of them are unaccustomed to dogs being kept as family pets inside the home and are quite fearful of our very well-trained and people-friendly dogs. One even stood in the middle of my yard looking terrified when she heard the dog bark when she rang the doorbell. She never even entered my home.
For almost three years, the management has worked with us in securing the one nurse we have so that we can have her when we need her, which is almost all the time! I wish they could find more nurses to train as back-up and pinch-hitters. But, I recognize that has more to do with the restrictions they have through Medicaid on paying these nurses. Still, I would like to see improvements on recruiting. I would think that nurses who just finished school and just got their licenses would view this work as a great stepping stone in their career. This agency needs to improve their communications skills in order to accomplish this. Otherwise, I would have to say that they get props for TRYING to meet our needs and for sincerely wanting to make their clients feel safe and satisfied with their efforts.
ASIDE.... the reviewer who gave one star and said to install cameras for nurses... I totally agree! Cameras should be installed ANYTIME you have outsiders working in your home, especially in the personal care of a loved one. I've had bad experiences from nurses from ANY agency. That's more about that particular nurse than it is about the agency who hired her.
Silver spring Home Health truly care for their patients, and they go above and beyond to ensure that their patients are comfortable and well taken care of. I have been a patient of theirs for 2 years and I just keep getting the best care and kindness every single day.
We have had this health care provider for almost three years and have been very pleased with them. They are always available to answer questions and deal with any concerns we approach them with. The office and health care manager, Pam, will always take the time to respond to my phone calls with issues that need immediate attention and is always polite and professional. I would highly recommend this company to anyone in need of home health and care provider services.
I HAVE BEEN A PATIENT WITH SILVER SPRINGS FOR SEVERAL YEARS. THIS IS THE MOST CARING NURSES I HAVE EVER HAD. VERY WELL TRAINED AWESOME WITH WOUND CARE. THE OFFICE STAFF IS INCREDIBLE AND IS ALWAYS ABLE TO HELP WHEN I CALL. THEY GET BACK TO ME WITH IN A COUPLE HOURS DEPENDING ON THE REASON FOR THE CALL.
I NOT ONLY HAVE SKILLED NURSING WITH THEM I ALSO HAVE PROVIDER SERVICES WITH THEM AND THE CARE GIVER I HAVE HAD FOR A COUPLE YEARS AND SHE IS WELL TRAINED AND VERY DEPENDABLE. I RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY TO ANY ONE...
