(May 30, 2017, 12:27 pm)This Houston Audubon wildlife sanctuary provides an escape from the city. A short hike down past magnolias, fern gardens next to a stream, and then you reach the sandy bottom of Winter's Bayou. A wonderful shady area. As this area is nestled in the middle of the Sam Houston National Forest you need to bring insect repellent and appropriate clothing. It is primitive and there are no restroom facilities, so "leave no trace". A great wild adventure. The sanctuary is open from sunrise to sunset.
