The EMT team from Austin Fire Station 43 were absolute superstars taking care of me last week. They arrived promptly and quickly realized there was no way to get their stretcher down our narrow hall.
I had reopened a knee replacement surgical site in a fall and there was no way I could walk or hobble my way out of my Office day bed without spilling lots more blood. They quickly turned my Aeron chair into a temporary mobility device and got me to the stretcher.
Once in the ambulance they quickly addressed my pain level and cheerfully listened while I babbled about anything to keep my mind off the pain. We are lucky to have such skilled and really nice men and women serving our area. The only issue was going to the Seton Southwest ER...but that particular nightmare was our fault.
I promise to bring brownies and some healthy treats br the station once I am mobile again! Also..Jessica I tried to send an email..but it keeps bouncing. Can you find me on LinkedIn?
Thank you all again for your service and care for our community.

Saturday evening my husband & I were having dinner in Austin when we received a call from our babysitter that our fire alarms were unexpectedly going off, & she & my kids had exited the house to our front yard. She ran to a neighbor’s house, but they weren’t there, so she called us. In the meantime, phone notifications from our “nest protect” signaled smoke in our youngest’s room & alerted anyone inside to get out. We called 911, & fire station #43 was on site immediately. The firemen & women checked the entire house (no fire was found), kept our boys calm & let them on the fire truck, kept us updated during the entire event via phone, & researched possible reasons the situation occurred (possible old smoke detectors, air filter issue, kitty litter dust kicked up by the air purifier & ceiling fan...). The responders were quick, efficient, communicated well, put us at ease (told us to finish our date night & not come home), were kind to our kids & sitter, & made us feel that if ever there was an emergency, they would be on top of it. We can’t wait to deliver some fruit, baked goods, & thank you notes to them this week to express our gratitude! What a blessing to have people like them keeping us all safe.
