I had almost forgotten that there is a Pok-e-Jo's in Georgetown. We made our first trip there on a Wednesday evening for a 2 meat plate. Hardly anyone else was dining in save for a few other couples. The brisket and pork ribs were tender, moist, smoky and delicious. The sides of pinto beans, coleslaw and Texas toast were equally tasty and made for the perfect accompanyment to a traditional barbeque dinner. I didn't forget the raw onions and pickles either. The condiment bar is always well stocked with everything you need to complete your perfect BBQ meal. If I'm not cooking it myself I might just be getting it from here from now on. And this place even serves up alcohol, beer, wine and spirits.
Even when it's near closing time the brisket and chicken were still very moist and tender, unlike some other BBQ joints where the meats get questionable late in the day.
The BBQ and atmosphere reminded me of Rudy's. It was good but not great. The quantity was good for the prices. It feels and tastes like a BBQ chain restaurant. You know what I mean, with a set recipe for everything and a dependable taste no matter which one you go in to. That's not a bad thing, it's just not an 'amazing' thing either. If you want good dependable BBQ at a reasonable price, this is a good choice. The beans were especially good, and they have a spicy pickle option at the condiments bar that adds a good flavor to the meats. We'll probably be back, because I don't know of any amazing BBQ places around there. If you're looking for mouth watering, hand crafted BBQ made by a pit master who has been perfecting his craft for his whole life, you'll have to look elsewhere.
Returning from the Fundamental 5 Conference, our team decided to stop here since we were not able to try the BBQ on the way to the conference. The restaurant is located inside of a strip mall next to a gym, talk about making you feel guilty, with plenty of parking. As you enter, you must place your order at the desk. The inside is big and very clean with large tables for a big group. The BBQ side bar has all the items you'd like pickles, onion, jalapeños, etc. I ordered the 3 meat plate ( ribs/brisket/sausage ) with okra & green beans. The brisket had a regular taste nothing great. The ribs were tender with a good smoke flavor and sausage was good. The green beans were truly a delicious side and okra crispy. The customer service was above average making the visit 4 stars and worth the stop at Georgetown. If you don't mind feeling guilty next to the gym, Pok-e-Jo's worth the visit.
