Great park with lots of hiking trails! I went very early in the morning and there was not a lot of people there, which we enjoyed! I did see kayak and canoes for rent if that’s something you’re interested in during the appropriate season! Also, we went through some cool trails down at the beach! My dogs and niece loved it!
I love this park, it is beautiful. The hiking trails are wonderful and have never been too crowded the times we've gone. There is a little shore people go swimming. Lots to do if you look at the brochure. We haven't been to the fossil beach yet but plan on going.
A quick get a away to connect with nature. The views and beautiful and there's a lot of wildlife. The visitor center was open and staff were helpful with quotes. There were trail maps available and clean bathrooms. I'll definitely be back, again and again.
Enjoyed the rolling hills through woods with occasional glimpses of water on a gorgeous spring afternoon. The visitors center has a couple of beautiful vistas if you're doing a drive by. If you're hiking the trails, keep an eye on trail closures. Repair work on Fossil Beach is underway. Wish there were reroutes instead of hard closures.
Nice day at a great state park. I spent a day here recently and I have to say its is one of my favorite VA parks thus far.
Be aware that if you go prior to about May they have multiple trails closed off during the week due to construction, erosion mitigation, and general maintenance. They do have everything open on weekends EXCEPT for the main fossil Beach, it is being worked on to help stop some severe erosion and I marked with a lot of signage to stay out of the protected zones. You can still access small parts of it.
The park staff I encountered were friendly and helpful, from the young lady in the store to the gentleman fixing the enclosures for the trash cans. The facilities were well kept and clean. One random weird item is having to go outside to access the toilet. They are attached to the main visitor center but not actually inside the building.
All in all a really nice park that I plant to visit again soon.
