Well documented self-guided tours
Great hiking (relatively short trails), historically significant, and well maintained. Located along the Potomac.
This park has a lot of history and trails. I hiked the Interpretative Trail what was somewhat well marked. It took me through the main section of the park, and it has a lot of sign telling the history of the battlefield. I walked passed 3 cannons and the cemetery. There are a lot of trails, all named, but the trail map only captures the color of the trails. Wish there was a more detailed hiking map. Some trails appeared to be very well kept, probably because they have more hikers. There was a gentleman at the entrance in the parking area sharing stories of the battlefield and he is the person to take to if you have questions or want to know about future events. There is a portable potty in the parking lot. I would come back again. The park is very clean but be sure to spray yourself with bug spray. I had some organic bug spray with no deet and I still got bitten twice.
The trails run easy to moderate. It's a good place to go if you just want somewhere wander for a bit of the day, but still be in the city.
Great distance and terrain options for young kids. My 3.5 year olds loved it. It was the perfect level of challenge for them. It felt like a true adventure.
