Chanco on the James

Great experience for the kids. Very positive

We tried a one week session to see how my son would like camp. We picked him up today and he wanted to stay longer! He said he had the greatest time swimming, making friends, tons of activities. He also said he wants to pray every night. Thank you to the counselors who made his time memorable! Two weeks next year!

I'm a little biased on this. I love Chanco, I went for summer camp as a child and teen. My children attend camp there now, and my mother went when she was a teen. The focus is on the kids and building a community, they have the usual summer camp activities,swimming, sailing, archery, and ropes course, and it's set in the woods of Surry county. Over the last few years there have been improvements to the conference center facilities, and the food is pretty good too.

I went to Camp Chanco as a kid in the 70's and 80's. My daughter (13) has been going for the last 5 years -- simply the best camp experience available. Also a terrific deal money wise. If your kid might be interested in having fun swimming, boating, archery, arts and crafts, making lifelong friends -- all the classic summer camp experiences send them to this camp!
