Young at Heart Adult Family Home

We give Young at Heart a 5+ rating. Our brother received excellent care for the 14 months he was at this Adult Family Home. Eugene and Natela were professional, kind and thorough. They served him inviting food that he liked and met his dietary restrictions. They handled all medications from start to finish. They worked smoothly with visiting medical staff and later the Hospice Team. After he passed, they were efficient in organizing his things, returning rental equipment and helping us clear out his room. Our family had the blessing of being able to place an elderly family member under the care of Eugene and Natela at Young at Heart. Coming from a very negative location we were blown away at their ability to listen and care for our uncle. Their focus on patient care and ability to manage some very challenging care requirements while maintaining an unbelievable level of "family touch" is phenomenal. If we could rate them at 10 stars we would. We would have no hesitation recommending Young at Heart (Eugene & Natela).

When my wife's parents needed to move from Assisted Living to a higher level of care we researched many facilities in the Vancouver, WA area and we were especially excited to find this facility. Owned by Ema and Reg Layzell, Ema is a RN and Reg manages the facilities. We needed a small group home with wonderful home cooking who could provide complete Memory Care for Stepmom with Dementia plus extreme pain care for Dad, plus the ability for them to remain together to end of life. My wife's father passed away peacefully in March of 2019 and her stepmother passed away in June of 2019. So if you are looking for a super clean facility with an RN on staff and caregivers who really provide tender loving care for your loved ones, keep you informed on medication and care levels, we would highly recommend Young at Heart as by far the best small intimate group home in the Vancouver, WA area we could find.

Our family has a long history with this facility as my grandmother and mother in law were both cared for here. Thinking about the word care what Reg and Ema do is so much more than just care. From the time you walk into this home you feel like this is the PLACE. The homey feeling, the good home cooked smells and the smiles of everyone there. It just has a loving feeling and you can rest assured that your loved ones will also be loved and cared for just like one of the family.

Our mother was placed at Young at Heart and stayed with the care takers for over five years. All of her emotional, spiritual and physical needs were taken care of with the utmost respect, integrity and thoughtfulness. Emma, Reg and all of the nursing staff were absolutely wonderful with her and our family. We were welcomed every visit with warmth and a smile. The home atmosphere was extremely valuable and having other patients around provided both comfort and friendship to our mom. Although at the end our mother could neither communicate nor participate in daily activities, she was always part of the family. We appreciated all of the insight and knowledge provided by the owners and staff members, especially as it related to our mom's medical care.

We would highly recommend Young at Heart and feel strongly that our mom's last few years were made special. This is not just a facility, it is a family.
