Deerfield Farm

Deerfield is an exceptional place - great horses, excellent instruction, and a wonderful community! The youth team is an amazing program that is focused not just on developing extraordinary riders, but also on developing extraordinary young women of character. I wish there had been a program like this that I could have been a part of as a child. As an adult, I started taking lessons once a week two years ago, then started leasing one of Deerfield's wonderful horses and experienced my first horse shows, and finally, last October, Katie helped to find me my very own horse. Ranger now lives and trains at Deerfield and he and I completed our first show season together and are part of the adult "non-pro" team. I have ridden horses throughout my life, but the instruction at Deerfield has been beyond anything I've ever experienced before. I've learned so much about riding and about myself, and I'm so thankful that I found a trainer like Katie and a barn like Deerfield!

My daughter has been riding at Deerfield for 3 years now. We love the program. The girls (boys are allowed but they are few) learn how to care for a horse, become disciplined athletes, and grow as competitors. When we started, we just wanted to take a few lessons in a barn with covered arena for my daughter and a heated viewing room for me. When we started at Deerfield, I was surprised how quickly my daughter became proficient and confident as a rider. Your child will get more than horse riding lessons at Deerfield. They will grow in confidence, responsibility, respect and discipline. It’s like buying “character development” lessons.

My daughter started as a once-a-week lesson student several years ago with limited riding experience, and it became the most important thing in the world for her to join the Deerfield riding team. We have owned a horse now for a couple of years and the program has become a big focus of our family's life. My daughter has gained so many positive life skills based on the program's focus on leadership, compassion for others and instilling the importance of a strong work ethic. To be on the team takes significant financial and time commitment but the challenge has been worth it. Lesson students also have opportunity to meet friends and get some introduction to the Deerfield principles at monthly overnights, great for even young children.

I've been with Deerfield for almost three years now and I love it. It is a place for your children to grow, have fun, and become a leader. They have multiple programs based on your child's age and skill level, and each coach knows how to handle children. My daughter recently joined the regional team, and I can tell that she is evolving everyday. Not to mention how much her riding has developed, but she has been a more well rounded kid from working out there for hours on end. I am happy that we kept her with it.
