Stone Chapel Mortuary has been so very helpful throughout the years. I first needed to have my father’s ashes buried in 2008, along with his mother, my grandma’s ashes which he had kept in a box & moved them around for many years before his death. Stone Chapel helped me put them side by side in a niche in a free standing columbarium, facing the West, as dad had always wanted to ‘fly off into the sunset’, so they arranged that they both be placed at the very top of the combarium!

Then, my step-father passed away in 2011 and my mother was able to pre-pay her own plan, as she wanted to have her ashes buried next to his in the same vault (grave) and share a headstone which she created. Again, mom had kept my brother’s ashes in a box which she too had moved around with her since 1999. So mom was able to also design a beautiful headstone for her son, as his ashes are in a vault next to the one she shares with my stepfather.

Mom just passed away this past Dec, and her funeral was held this 2nd week of Jan (due to family scheduling) and every single thing that Stone Chapel said they would do for her, was done in a most timely, caring manner from the receptionist to the mortician to the groundskeepers who laid mom’s ashes in the vault, to finally rest between her husband & son.

Now, my husband & i too have just this week prepaid and planned our own cremation and services and will be buried in a dual vault also, right next to my step-father & mother!

This is the confidence i have in using Stone Chapel Mortuary for my family’s needs; they explain everything & get right to the point, which i so appreciate. I am so thankful of their kind, understanding, considerate services!

I recently had my mom's memorial service at the Stone Chapel. The staff is very caring and professional in handling all the details. I also really like the warm feel of the sanctuary where the service was held. My dad's service was held there 3 years ago and it was a lovely service as well. My parents had purchased a pre-paid funeral plan back in 1995 with the Lewis Mortuary/Stone Chapel. It was reassuring to know that their wishes were followed out in every detail. Highly recommend.

    Competence, Sensitivity, Integrity

My 99-year-old mother’s burial was more complex than most. While she did not want a funeral, she did want her body to be transported back East and laid to rest next to my late-father’s grave, in the plot she’d reserved long ago.

I am thankful to have had Lewis Chapel/Poulsbo Mortuary in my corner to fulfill those wishes. Before my mom’s death, I consulted with Lynn Fermstad, Director of Family Services, for what they call the “pre-planning” stage, helping me ascertain the costs involved so we could set aside the amount needed. She told us the type of zinc-lined casket required for the airline travel, and researched the dimensions for me to determine whether it would fit into a concrete vault surround, as well as the grave.

After my mom died, Lynn explained the process and detailed costs clearly. Melody Chanco, the Funeral Director and Embalmer, took over from there. She performed her own tasks with skill and compassion, we were able to see how my mom looked and had unpressured time to say good-bye to her in solitude. Naturally, it was important for me to determine which funeral home would handle the receiving end, but I was having trouble pulling a contract out of the likely choice. When Melody learned that, she called the New York funeral director on my behalf (at no additional charge to us), and the contract landed in my e-mail forthwith.

Poulsbo Mortuary handled everything with respect and without a hitch. They notified Social Security of the death, obtained the death certificates, and made the travel and pick-up arrangements for the New York end. There were no surprises and there was no attempt to “upsell.”

I can’t speak highly enough of the experience we had with Lewis Chapel/Poulsbo Mortuary. We are grateful they were there to handle our needs with such competence, sensitivity, and integrity.
