This park is incredible not only for the trails, huge sports fields, and ample parking, but also for the history of how it was founded. This was once a huge privately owned estate when I was growing up. I heard from some people involved during the building of the park that the Sehmel family turned down higher offers from big housing contractors and sold it to the city to build this park. Their reason was to enrich the community. You don’t see that very often which always makes this place seem extra special.
Aside from the ball fields, the master gardener's organization is just awesome. Enjoy a creative wandering and a tribute bench for great R/R sit and soak it all in!
Best park in Gig Harbor, in my humble opinio. Ball fields, kids play area, adult workout area, huge outdoor amphitheater a cool meadow and a master garden. Trails all the way around and through. Very cool place
Nice park. Kids loved it lots. Huge area for them to play. Looks really nice all over. Super clean all over. No place to cool off. Couldn't find a water place to get a drink. Depending on what we brought as the day was crazy hot. People are super nice. Very helpful with other information for other places to visit.
Great park! So much to do. There are several large fields for softball, baseball and soccer. Several basketball and tennis courts. There is a huge play structure/jungle gym with multiple slides, climbing structures, swings and other activities. Lots of benches and picnic tables for parents to watch children play. Gender specific and family bathrooms are clean and well maintained. Dogs are allowed but must be leased. Doggie waste disposal bags are available. Several water fountains with water bottle fillers. Covered picnic area is first come first served. Lots of swings including toddler, handicapped and regular swings. There is a stationary bike and elliptical machine for parents to use while the kids play. This park gets very crowded during peak hours. Lots of parking but only 3 handicapped spaces which are frequently in use.
