(April 14, 2015, 9:02 am)We were camping at Kettle Moraine South Horseman's Camp in Wisconsin when my daughter's mare started showing signs of colic. We thought we had it under control but it then took a turn for the worse very early on Sunday morning. After several attempts with different equine vet offices, getting only recordings at 6am on a Sunday, Dr. Jon Gieche of Kettle Moraine Equine Hospital actually answered his phone. After a brief phone conversation, he made it to the campground in less than 30 minutes with a fully equipped van. Despite the early hours he was extremely kind, compassionate and very thorough, diagnosing and treating her very quickly, explaining every step along the way. He even returned to the camp less than an hour later with lab results he ran stat at no extra charge just to put our mind at ease for the 2.5 hour trip back home. His charges were very reasonable and his "bedside manner" was truly amazing. The horse is recovering nicely thanks to Dr. Gieche and this was a great trip with a happy ending. Kettle Moraine is a great place to camp, especially for beginners and Dr. Gieche's number is a great one to have in your phone should you need a vet while camping there.
