I have struggled with my vision for many years now. I had a corner transplant in 2014 and was referred to Dr. Carlsson shortly after. The staff is extremely friendly and Dr. Carlsson takes the time to ensure my vision is correct. The scleral lenses he fit for me have changed my life. I can finally clearly see! Recommend to anyone looking for vision help.
I have had challenges with my vision for years due to RK performed nearly 30 years ago. My vision has been variable and I have not been able to get clarity in my vision since the RK so many years ago. My ophthalmologist suggested that I visit Dr. Carlsson since he felt he was the best in the valley for contacts generally, and absolutely the best for special cases like mine.
I made an appointment with Dr. Carlsson, his staff was very professional and courteous. When I went to the appointment, Dr. Carlsson was right on time and they had scheduled the time required to for a VERY complete evaluation, including a computer scanning of the eye surface to make sure my circumstances were properly diagnosed, and that Dr. Carlsson would be able to find a contact solution unique to my circumstances. He even scheduled time right before his lunch to make sure he was not rushed to spend the time required to properly study, find the right eye solution and then work with me through multiple fitting sessions and adjustments to make sure the contact and my vision was perfect, and that the lens sit perfectly on my eye for total comfort. There were many, many adjustments he needed to make, and he and his wonderful staff spent the time with me to make sure all was perfect.
My vision is unbelievably clear and exacting (I have never experienced this before) and now I cannot stand to wear even glasses for clarity and comfort--these new Zen lenses, as fitted by Dr. Carlsson are unlike anything I have experienced.
No matter you vision needs, I cannot recommend Dr. Carlsson highly enough. I have never been to an eye-care professional like him, and will no doubt be going back with any need I have in the future.
I am 41 and began using Ortho-K lenses in early December under the care of Dr. Carlsson.
First, a word about Carlsson Family Eye Center. They are fantastic. Every visit has been prompt and thorough. I never once felt like I was being rushed, and ALL of my questions were answered. First class care all around.
Now, a word about Ortho-K (specifically to the older crowd who might be interested): DO IT. At the beginning of this adventure, I wore contacts with a strength of -4.0 in my right eye and -4.5 in my left eye. After about a week of wearing the lenses, I required daily contacts about half as powerful. We then switched to a second pair of lenses (there is a bit of personalization required depending on the shape of your individual eye, so expect 2 or 3 lenses before you hit the sweet spot). After two more weeks, I was wearing -1.0 in each eye. A week after that, I was wearing -.75 only in my left eye. After a month (maybe 5 weeks), we moved to my third and final pair, and the very next day I stopped needing contacts at all, and I’m enjoying better than 20/20 vision from 6am until well after midnight. My eyesight is better than I’ve ever remembered it being.
If you are older, your eyes are a little less malleable, so it takes a little longer. The information I had read all described a period of 1-3 weeks before maximum benefit, but it took me about 5 due to being 41 and not a teenager (most of the promotional material is geared towards younger users). Don’t let the longer time dissuade or dishearten you – IT IS STILL WORKING. This is the best decision I’ve made about my eyes in 25 years, and my only regret is that I didn’t do this years ago.
It is non-surgical, non-invasive, and 100% reversible. If you can wear contacts, you can do this. You just put them in before bed and take them out when you wake up. FULL DISCLOSURE: For the first week, the first 5-10 minutes of wearing the contacts were annoying. Not even uncomfortable, just more annoying. It felt like an eyelash was in your eye (not even as bad as that, but in the neighborhood), but after a few minutes that faded. Now it feels that way for about 30-60 seconds, then it’s gone. Worth it for a full day of perfect vision.
I cannot express how happy I am with my lenses. It has absolutely changed my life. As someone who hates wearing glasses and contacts, but is deathly afraid of any type of surgery, this is quite literally a miracle. If you’ve ever entertained the idea of trying this, DO IT. You will not regret it.
