Great weather for a hike today. Not to hot not to cold. I personally like places with less traffic than I encountered today but good hike nonetheless.
Great place for a mountain bike ride. Some incredible stream crossings.
Very nice shaded and not so steep hike with some history of 1980 radars on top. Beautiful views of bay area.
Hiked from Kennedy Rd trail head to Mount Um. Trail conditions were good. It is a rigorous 15 miles (one way) with appreciable elevation gain. Bring snacks and a lot of water. It is fairly exposed for much of the trail until Woods and the Mt Um portion of the trail. Spectacular views along the way. If you don't want to hike all the way to Um, you can join Priest Rock or Lime Kiln trails or just hike up to the top where Priest Rock intersects and back (from Kennedy). Lots of options. You can hike from Alma Bridge road as well. Hike as long or short as you like. Bikes share the trails. One of my favorite local trail system.
We were at the mount. Umunhum old radar station. Highly recommend
The view there was fantastic. We could see all the way to the Pacific Ocean from there
There is a hiking trail right next to the radar station. We did about 40 minute hike round trip there. I liked a lot for the followings:
1 some sections are shady, some are open with great views
2 views are great due to its relatively higher altitude
3 the trail was relatively new, not that crowded compared with other popular county park hiking trails
Dogs are not allowed near the radar station area

Unlike most open space preserves, there is a bathroom housed on the premises for public use. However, this is no water access, meaning owners must bring bottled water for Fido to drink. Care must be taken to not disturb the animals that make Sierra Azul Open Space Preserve their home.
