Highly recommend Shaun as a cello teacher! Not only is he a talented musician, but a great educator as well. Our son started taking cello lessons with Shaun as a beginner at age of 12. And now, 2 1/2 years later, he plays beautifully and keeps surprising us with the progress he is making after each lesson. Our son really likes Shaun, and we feel very blessed to have him as teacher.

Shaun is an amazing teacher. His approach to teaching is very unique in that he can teach a number of different of styles from classical to jazz to pop to improvisational work which makes the lessons very fun. I have learned a lot from Shaun so far and I can really see improvements in my playing. With Shaun, you feel free to explore all aspects of the cello in a comfortable environment and he is an amazing performer himself so it is always inspirational to hear him demonstrate different techniques on his cello throughout our lessons. I highly recommend Shaun's Cello Studio.

My son studied with Shaun for a little over 2 years. In that time, he moved from being the beginning level (level 1) orchestra to the top level (chamber - Level 5) - 5 levels in 2 years. While my son has worked hard to achieve this, there is absolutely no doubt that without Shaun's guidance, this would not have been possible.

Shaun created a foundation of love for music and the cello, which has served our son very well. As a teacher, Shaun is insightful, encouraging and open to let the student take them to where they need to be guided. He encourages creativity while also working on the technical details that help to learn and flourish.

To the extent that playing an instrument is also an exploration of the heart and soul, Shaun is a tremendous companion and guide to his students. It is this inner journey that makes Shaun an unusual teacher.
A few people have remarked that there is musicality in our son's playing. This is perhaps Shaun's greatest gift to his students - bringing forth the soul through careful attention to technique. But technique always in service to the music.

One of the remarkable things about Shaun was that he told us that we were coming close to what he could offer our son as a teacher and urged us to find his next teacher. This made the second phase of our son’s musical journey, a cooperative effort guided by the best thing for our son’s musical development. This experience stands in contrast to many horror stories I have heard about other teachers.

Shaun's instruction has indeed been a gift for us and for our son. Eighteen months after our son studied with Shaun, we are grateful and remain in Shaun's debt...

It has been a pleasure working with Shaun over the past few years. I was originally a cello student of his who was interested in focusing on music composition. I had studied music theory, but I needed someone to help me find my voice and navigate the composition process. Shaun has been the perfect person for that. He is knowledgeable, kind, easy to work with and his insight has helped me make great strides as a composer. Shaun has a true passion for music and working with him has been an all-around great experience.

Shaun is an absolutely amazing teacher and person! I took lessons from him for years. When I started my lessons, playing the cello was a hobby, but when I finished he transformed it into my passion. He also helped to me to get out of my classical music comfort zone and learn to love improvising and playing other genres as well. Lessons with Shaun were the highlight of my week every week and he never failed to put a smile on my face. My lessons with Shaun were extremely rewarding and he even helped me to get a cello scholarship to the school I was wanting to get in to! I highly recommend Shaun for whatever level you are at in you music journey!
