  My son moved to KCAA in 9th grade from another DPS school, mostly because of bullying that the administration of his previous school did not handle well. At. All. Their mishandling allowed the bullying to continue. He did not feel safe & was struggling on a daily basis.
  
  He is a cartoonist and loved what KCAA had to offer. He also struggles with Sensory Processing Disorder & working memory issues.
  
  During that year, his teachers and the administration showed great advocacy for my son. He loved his teachers & most of his classes. His academics exploded & he bloomed in areas I thought he never would.
  
  I truly felt that he was exactly where he needed to be. Unfortunately, he had a great group he missed socially in his old school. So he came to my husband and I with a well formed reason he wanted to go back to his old school.
  
  I was totally against him going back, but felt we should listen to him. My hope was that he would go back and realize how great KCAA was. His old school had an art teacher, but not what KCAA offers on a daily basis.
  
  So he started 10th grade at his old school. Less than a month later, he was upset that I had given in and agreed to let him transfer out of KCAA.
  
  We contacted the KCAA's principal and asked what we could do. He was ecstatic that our son wanted to come back, but was unable to make the transfer until 2nd semester.
  
  Our son counted the days...literally!
  
  When he came back to KCAA, he was wholeheartedly welcomed by students and staff members.
  
  Since that time, he has continued with awesome grades & is very happy to be a KCAA student...100%.
  
  He is in a great program, with great teachers, has decided that college is an option for him and has been narrowing in on college choices.
  
  I can not say enough good things about KCAA! My younger son is choosing to go there as well.
