Seriously one of my favorite places to take my dog! One of the few places I take him actually - we are originally from Oregon and river swimming was our thing - so coming here and finding this HUGE (seriously-it’s huge) wooded off leash area that also border the river, and offering nature trails that wind up down and sideways, I feel like I’m back home in Oregon sometimes. A little Pacific Northwest vibe here in the upper mid west! Such a great dog park!
Absolute favorite dog park in MSP area. Huge unleashed area with tons of different intersecting trails and a beach along the river. Beautiful hike! It’s so nice to have a park where both me and my dog get to exercise a bit!
Parking can be a bit of a bother during busy times, but there are enough streets in the area (both paid and unpaid) that you’ll always be able to find something, you might just have to walk a couple of blocks.
Also make sure you have the Minneapolis Parks dog permit! I’ve seen them checking for it the on the weekend.
Love this place & can’t wait to see it in the snow :)
This park is huge and wonderful and not the one for a new pup or foster. It could be a nightmare for an owner with a dog with poor recall. Otherwise, it is fantastic. Access to the Mississippi and trails. Watch out that the canopy is dense enough in places for it to get quite dark even before dusk. Mixed terrain. Uneven stairs made of stone and earth before you get to the river. Supportive shoes and a present mind is best. Trash cans available near the entrance. Picking up your pup’s poop is still the culture in this huge park as well. Makes it enjoyable for all of us.
Water dogs love this dog park! High water in the spring and thin ice in winter, but during the summer months a great place for dogs to cool off and owners to hang out along the shoreline.
The best dog park that we have ever been to! We are from out from town, but were happy that we could still bring our dogs here. You have to buy a permit online which costs $5 per dog per day, but that was pretty easy to do. You don’t have to print this off, which can be a huge hassle when travelling. The park itself is gorgeous, and also huge! Plenty of walking trails through the woods to explore with a ton of off leash areas. There is also an area by the water where dogs are able to splash around. Lots of friendly dog owners around who were able to point us in the right directions. Do not skip this place if you have dogs! It is well worth the drive and the small fee.
