Very beautiful.
Awesome fort with lots of history
Three images attached. The one with the most hazy view across the river is by William Henry Bartlett (1809-1854), an original documenter of the sites of the Hudson River for European audiences, Bartletts' subject here is the abandoned Fort which predated West Point.
Jasper Francis Cropsey (1823-1900) painted the view which includes the bare tree; an oddity for a painter who reveled in the treasure of the autumn colors. It may reflect the ruins of the Fort Putnam
The most lush rendering was painted by Thomas Cole (1801-1848), the patriarch of the Hudson River School of landscape painting. This site became a subject for several painters, in part due to the association of the Fort with the glorious Revolution, and the air of ruins when the Fort fell into disuse

Fort Putnam is a reminder that West Point was an important military post before the United States Military Academy at West Point was founded here in 1802. Fort Putnam was a ruin before it was rebuilt in the 1920's using the old plans and Cadet drawings of what the fort looked like in the early years.
