Lone Elk Park is such a magical place. From the sun beaming down on the lake with the hills surrounding it as you are driving. The grasslands, the wooded areas and the beautiful animals roaming around. The bison, the elk, deer, birds and other local wild life just living their little lives. This is a perfect park to just have your windows down, no music and to just enjoy nature. I often like to sit down and watch what the animals are doing for hours on end watching them graze and live life just as we do. This is a perfect place to take your family and boy do the animals get close so be careful!
Had a great walk at Lone Elk County Park with my wonderful wife! Not only were the fall colors starting to show their brilliance, the temperature was perfectly balanced with a steady breeze that made it extremely enjoyable to hike around. We ate lunch about halfway into our hike on White Boson Trail at a spot overlooking the lake and it was magical to see the sparkling water! What’s more, we were treated to a cornucopia of wildlife during the last 1/4 mile of our hike: majestic elk, wandering deer, moseying raccoons, munching chipmunks, and scampering squirrels! Then, we saw some bison laying about with an armadillo rooting around as we were driving out! Can’t beat fall hiking! #Fall #missouri #nature #naturelovers #hiking #hikingadventures #naturephotography #outdoors #outdoorphotography
Absolutely beautiful place. Hidden gem in the St. Louis, MO trip. We had to kill a whole afternoon and evening before our flight out. This was a stress free ride through, seeing elks, bisons, friendly raccoons acting cute (don't fall for it) as you drive by. We took the loop twice. Nature's beauty at it's best.
We never tire of driving through. Each time, we see something different. And, it always delights my elderly mother. This latest visit, there was a newborn elk along with baby raccoons and a growing bison calf.
Lone elk is very cool. Our family has been only 3 times now but it's been a few great experiences. You can walk trails get to see the bison, elk, deer and they even have a bird sanctuary. Although I haven't been to see the birds. There is a pretty cool lookout at the beginning of the drive. We went on a trail our last time there and got to see some bison up close. Not too close... just a great place to go and see nature and have a nice picnic.
Oh we also found a dog statue I believe was a good cache. We wasn't doing the geo caches but we spotted the dog.. apologies for the camera focus.
